After speaking with some local experts here is what I gathered on when to get those sprinklers in action.
North Dakota has unpredictable weather patterns this time of year, so it is suggested to wait until the beginning of May at the earliest to engage your sprinklers.
Generally to freeze lines it would have to be around mid 20’s for an extended period of time.
If you have started your sprinkler system already you can avoid damage by simply turn off the system inside and open the system drains
